On embodied mathematics, conceptual metaphors and the romance of mathematics

On Thursday May 2, 2013, I will be giving a presentation at the Interdisciplinary Day Seminar devoted to The Body – Materiality and Meaning (Aarhus, 11.15 to 16.00, room 1586-120). My talk will be a brief outline of the relatively recent approaches to the philosophy of mathematics from cognitive science, in particular building on the work of George Lakoff and Rafael E. Núñez in their seminal book Where Mathematics Comes From. The talk will also include some reflections on the role of gestures in mathematics as a way of evaluating the approach as a philosophical account of mathematical practice.
